RESPONSIBILITIES

Weidlinger Associates Inc. (WAI) has an opening for a highly motivated scientific programmer / structural analyst in the Applied Science & Investigations Division. The chosen candidate will work independently and in teams to develop and maintain structural mechanics software in FORTRAN, C and C++. In depth understanding of structural mechanics and numerical methods is required. WAI’s emphasis is on solving real problems in a production environment, while simultaneously honing computational tools. Relevant experience is a plus, but the ability, background and commitment to become an expert in structural dynamics for blast and shock applications are most important.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Maintain and improve existing structural dynamics software
• Perform Finite Element analysis of structures subjected to blast and impact
• Effectively manage concurrent technical tasks, under demanding timelines to produce deliverables
• Document results in reports and presentations
• Work effectively with other software developers and structural and CFD analysts

 

REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• MS or PhD in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline (Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, etc.)
• Understanding of Structural Mechanics
• Understanding of blast and shock physics
• Familiarity with numerical software and algorithms.
• Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to develop independent and creative solutions to complex problems.

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• US Citizenship and the eligibility to obtain a security clearance
• Experience in blast and shock applications
• Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics, and CFD/CSD coupling
• Understanding of meshless methods
• Experience programming in FORTRAN.
• Experience working on large scientific computing codes.
• Parallel computing experience (familiarity with MPI, OpenMP, and Threading)
• Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems
• Knowledge of CVS software version control

Responsibilities include construction inspection, record keeping, concrete testing, measurements, quantify calculations and MURK forms. 

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 3 years experience in NYC area public agencies such as NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYSTA, NYCDEP or NYCDDC. Requirements include BS in Civil Engineering or Construction degree or NICET certification. Working knowledge of the steel/construction NYS & Construction Manual. OSHA requirements and contract specifications.

TITLE

Structural/Blast Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform structural calculations for the design and analysis of building structures and facades subject to dynamic blast loadings. Work should be in conformance with applicable building codes such as IBC, ACI, AISC as well as applicable blast design standards. Perform single degree of freedom, multiple degree of freedom and finite element analyses of structural and façade systems and conduct computational modeling of potential structural design schemes using SAP 2000 nonlinear, ETABS and RAM. Perform nonlinear, dynamic analyses of building structures for the prevention of progressive collapse. Transfer design information from calculations to structural drawings, reports and compile calculation packages. Coordinate with architects, other engineering disciplines and contractor. Review shop drawings produced by façade and structural system subcontractors. 

REQUIREMENTS

MS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, course work in dynamics or blast engineering is preferred but not required. 0-5 years experience. Must be US citizen.

Civil/Roadway Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES

The New York Transportation Division has openings at multiple levels for the position of Civil Engineer. Responsibilities include preparation of design controls for roadway improvement projects, traffic and transportation studies, site/civil design including grading, drainage and storm water collection systems, traffic signal design, utility design, report writing, quantity, quantity takeoffs and cost estimating and specification writing. Will work closely with an existing staff of twelve civil engineers, on assignments of varying size and duration. Little or no travel required outside the limits of New York City.  

REQUIREMENTS

BS or MS in civil engineering and 2 to 8 years of project experience for responsibilities listed above. Experience with civil/transportation engineering, including grading, drainage, pavement design, utilities and maintenance of traffic. Proficiency in AutoCADD and design software programs. Computational Fluid Dynamics, Airblast Analyst

Weidlinger Associates Inc. has an opening for a highly motivated airblast analyst in the Applied Science Division. The chosen candidate will work independently and in teams to build Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models, run CFD simulations, develop and implement CFD algorithms and couple CFD to structural analysis software. The emphasis is on solving real problems in a production environment, while simultaneously honing the computational tools. Relevant experience is a plus, but the ability, background and commitment to become an expert in CFD for blast and shock applications are most important.  

REQUIREMENTS

PE preferred but not essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and analysis of building structures, including the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and estimates. Performance of conventional engineering computations using standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Performance of more complex structural engineering tasks, such as the design and analysis of structures for blast and shock loads and the design of nuclear facilities for seismic loads. Monitoring and adherence to budgets and schedules, performance of QC reviews, and collaboration with other staff members. Application of judgment and independent evaluation to the planning and execution of work. Some client contact. 

REQUIREMENTS

BS or MS in civil engineering and 6-10 years of project experience for responsibilities listed above. Experience with commercial finite element analysis programs such as RISA, STAAD-Pro, ETABS, etc. CADD skills a plus. Self-motivated. Strong technical, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communications. Ability to travel and work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients. Degree specialty in structural engineering and PE preferred.
