02.2008 - Van Eepoel Chosen to Represent the “New Face of Engineering”

Peggy Van Eepoel is being featured by the coalition of engineering societies that sponsor National Engineers Week; she is her division's youngest Associate and a specialist in blast engineering.

NEW YORK, NY; WASHINGTON, DC - Peggy Van Eepoel, PE, is one of five engineers, 30 years old and younger, nominated this year by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the New Faces campaign of the National Engineers Week Foundation. Each year, the Foundation, a coalition of engineering societies, major corporations, and government agencies, promotes engineers in general and young engineers in particular who “through their outstanding abilities and leadership… are changing the world for the better in remarkable ways.”

Van Eepoel, a structural engineer at Weidlinger, specializes in blast design. Recently promoted to Associate, she manages all blast design projects in the firm’s Washington, DC, office and supervises the work of several engineers in the firm’s Washington, DC, and New York City offices. She is currently the youngest Associate in her division. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Polytechnic University and her Masters of Engineering in High Performance Structures from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; she is a registered Professional Engineer.

“Peggy’s diligence and creativity have enhanced the safety and preserved the aesthetics of many high-profile and historic buildings. Her leadership helps Weidlinger to advance the field of engineering and maintain the high professional standards that have always distinguished our firm,” said Raymond P. Daddazio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Weidlinger. “We are especially proud of her being chosen for this honor because of our ongoing commitment to attract, hire, and promote a diverse group of young professionals.”

As blast design is a relatively new structural engineering discipline, a large part of Van Eepoel’s job is to educate structural engineers, architects, and contractors, through presentations and informational meetings. She works with private owners and government agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of State, and General Services Administration on various types of structures, including airports, office buildings, embassies, courthouses, and mixed-use residential projects.
