Field investigation and computer model of earthquake response of large condominium complex. Testified in California Superior Court.
Weidlinger Associates was engaged by the Nordhoff Homeowners Association to evaluate the damage caused by the 1994 Northridge earthquake to their residential townhouses and to determine the necessary repairs. Weidlinger conducted a field investigation to document the damage and measure the horizontal and vertical deflection of structural members. The firm also created a three-dimensional computer model showing the building's real-time response to the earthquake, for presentation to the jury. The results of the field investigation and computer studies, as well as the recommendations for repair, formed the engineering backbone of the homeowners' legal defense. The client prevailed in this "bad faith" earthquake case.
