Field investigation and computer analysis of earthquake damage and shrinkage effects. Testified in California Superior Court.

Weidlinger Associates provided field documentation of damage to a condominium complex in West Los Angeles that resulted primarily from the 1994 Northridge earthquake and also from shrinkage. The 211-unit residential complex consisted of 33 wood-framed and stucco buildings constructed in the early 1970s. Approximately half of the buildings were slab-on-grade and the rest were above a tuck-under parking garage. Weidlinger developed a sophisticated computer model of one of the buildings with tuck-under parking. The computer model used an estimate of the 1994 Northridge earthquake ground motion at the building site. The deformation characteristics of the stucco and gypsum walls were derived from recent tests conducted at a leading university. The opposition's expert complimented the computer model as state-of-the-art and did not find any objections. Weidlinger's work was presented in a mediation hearing and before the California Superior Court
