Eisenhower Executive Office Building Modernization

Modernization of 17th Street wing of landmark federal office building with glass facade to create open, flexible spaces. Addition of central utility plant. Design-build. 192,000 sf.

Weidlinger Associates provided structural engineering for a design-build modernization of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB) in Washington, DC. The National Historic Landmark was first occupied in 1875 and completed in 1888. It served as headquarters for both the War and State Departments and is currently occupied by the executive branch. Several wings have been partially restored over the past twenty years. The first reconstruction phase focused on the 17th Street wing, formerly the Old Executive Office Building, next to the White House. The current upgrade and renovation of that wing eliminated non-historic partitions to create open, flexible spaces; improved electrical and telecommunications systems within accessible raised floors; added a new central utility plant; enhanced security; and preserved and restored historic details. All construction was performed at night.
